RRKIDZ (READING RAINBOW)
RRKidz, founded by LeVar Burton and Mark Wolfe, inherited Reading Rainbow from PBS when the station decided to retire the popular children’s show. RRKidz felt it was imperative that the name and spirit of the show lived on, continuing to teach children the joys of reading at an early age. Their first enterprise was a robust iOS application that featured animations, videos, and interactive books. When it came time to launch an Android version of the application, they needed someone who could move fast, and get the full-featured application to market on the Kindle Fire.
+ Project: Reading Rainbow for Kindle Fire
RRKidz came to us with a tight deadline to launch a feature-rich Android application on the Kindle Fire. We worked closely with their IT and Development team to take the assets they had developed for the iPad and make them work on the Android-based Kindle Fire devices. We developed an OpenGL prototype to verify that an OpenGL book reader would work on the Kindle Fire. We consulted with RRKidz on the difference between iOS and Android to help them make informed decisions about appropriate feature modifications for the Android version, and we finished support for additional devices with over 25% of the budget left. As of Memorial Day Weekend, 2013, Amazon has been heavily promoting the ReadingRainbow application and it is #1 in both the Education and Reading categories of the Amazon Appstore.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU from LeVar and I for all the work you guys have done to get us to the release of our application on all Kindle Versions. The work is great, and we are so excited to introduce ReadingRainbow to the Kindle families. Thanks again, and of course look forward to continuing to work with you all.
