Speed was never the bottleneck that mattered. Direction was. And nothing about typing your idea into an AI tool and watching it produce working code answers the only question that was ever hard: Is this the right thing to build?

A Working Demo Isn’t Proof of Anything

A vibe-coded prototype proves exactly one thing: that the idea is technically possible. It doesn’t prove the problem is real, that anyone will pay for the solution, or that people will use it the way you assumed they would. It proves code can run. That’s all.

Before AI tools got this good, that distinction mattered less, because building anything took long enough that founders were forced to think it through first, if only because a wasted month was expensive.

Now the cost of building the wrong thing has dropped to almost nothing per attempt, which sounds like an advantage until you realize it also removed the one thing that used to force founders to slow down and get clear before they built.

The Part AI Can’t Skip For You

None of this is an argument against building fast. It’s an argument against confusing a fast build with a validated one. The tools got radically better at execution. They didn’t get better at telling you what’s actually worth executing, because that was never a coding problem to begin with.

That part still has to happen the old way: figuring out what problem you’re actually solving, who it’s really for, what makes it different from everything else being shipped just as fast, and what the business underneath the demo actually looks like.

Skip it, and a working prototype doesn’t save you time. It just delays the moment you find out you built the wrong thing, usually right around when you’re trying to raise money or land real users, and the demo stops being enough.

  • Xiaomi unveiled its new Xring O3 smartphone processor, built on TSMC’s 3-nanometer process, along with two more in-house chips: the Xring O100 for on-device AI and the Xring D100 for autonomous driving.
  • Nvidia is reportedly in talks to invest in Perplexity as part of a new funding round that would value the AI search startup at more than $30 billion, over 50% above its valuation from a year ago.
  • Samsung Electronics shares fell more than 8% after the company announced a record 90 to 110 trillion won ($65 to $80 billion) shareholder return plan, five times its previous high.
  • Amazon quietly raised prices across several of its devices, including a 36% jump on the base Kindle and a 25% jump on the Kindle Paperwhite, citing rising memory and storage component costs. The Kindle Scribe was the only e-reader spared from the increase.
